Heaven.......beyond Man's Ability To Comprehend

What is it really like? What can we expect? Biblical prophets tell us very little about heaven. In the book of Matthew, heaven is a place of happiness and everlasting life.

The last book of the bible, Revelation, states that heaven will come to earth; meaning that God's city will descend to us; earth's inhabitants. There is so much that we, as mere humans cannot possibly comprehend. We are confused in the darkness of what we do not understand. Nevertheless, I am of the belief that heaven is far more than man can ever imagine.

Isaiah envisions the eventual renewal and restoration of earth and sky. According to this prophet, there will be a new relationship between heaven and earth. He also predicts that there will be international peace, and that God will live among His people on earth. According to scripture, even wild animals will no longer be a danger. That fact in it's self is a blessing; however, there will be greater blessings, ones we cannot possibly imagine.

Isaiah envisions the eventual renewal and restoration of earth and sky. He quoted God as saying, "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come to mind. The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, not even the voice of crying." Isaiah 65:17-19.

Heaven will be an eternal place of great joy and satisfaction. Most of all, we will be in the presence of God. That will be a great day of rejoicing! People of all races and tongues of every nation will be present. There will be no marriage, however, according to Matthew 22:30, we will recognize those we knew on earth.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing my loved ones who preceded me in death. I envision shedding tears of unspeakable joy at the site of those whom I miss so very much. There will be endless laughter as we talk for hours unending. In a conversation with co-workers, we thrashed around the idea of having nothing to worry about such as, arising early each morning and dealing with inclement weather and crazy unsafe drivers in heavy traffic.

One co-worker made the statement...."We won't need money or cars, therefore we will not need to worry about buying food or clothes; how will we spend our time productively with so little to do?" Our imaginations began to wonder if we would get bored. After all, we can only sit around talking for a time before we will run out of interesting things to talk about. We continued to speculate and were able to reach only one conclusion; that the bottom line is this...God obviously do not want us to know what He has planned for us. Remember the apostle Paul; He felt that he had an out-of-body experience. He was not really sure about what happened to him, however, he felt that he was caught up in Paradise where he heard things he was not allowed to talk about according to 2 Corinthians 12:1-4. Obviously, whatever Paul heard was so exhilarating that it would have distracted him from an ongoing dependence upon the Grace of God. For the duration of Paul's time on earth, the Lord of heaven let him suffer at the hand of Satan, to keep him on his knees. God taught Paul to depend on Him one day at a time. He also wants us as His children, to rely on Him... one day at a time, and believe in His promise of an eternity that is beyond our ability to understand.

Can you imagine living in a world completely devoid of hate, of pain and suffering, or lack, jealously, envy, strife, hunger and all matters of sin and degradation? Can you imagine no sickness, no medication for arthritis, migraine headaches, and diabetes? There will be no need for doctors, hospitals, police officers, lawyers, or possibly no need for transportation anywhere. No worry about gasoline prices, electric bills, mortgage payments and interest rates. Okay, I realize I am getting a bit carried away with what seems like speculation, however, as I write this article, I am overwhelmed by such peace and anticipation of a better place in which to live, my elation surpasses all understanding.

The idea that this earth with all of its strife is not the end of everything, that there is more; that we have the promises of heaven and all of its glory. I can dare to dream of a better place awaiting each of us who believe. This revelation gives us reason to hope, to believe, to trust, and to anticipate. I believe that God is teaching us to depend on Him for an eternity that is beyond our ability to understand in this present existence. What can you believe?
