We are living in an age of anxiety. Our sense of well-being is under attack. We appear to have lost control of our world. Our vitality and visions are being stripped away and replaced by self-doubt. We live under the pressures of bankruptcy of our financial systems. Some of our most prominent businesses are folding, thus creating overwhelming job losses. On any given day whether you read the newspaper, watch television or turn on your computer you can find the media reporting negative news about everything from airplanes falling from the sky to companies filing bankruptcy, gasses that are polluting our earth, government corruption, wars and rumors of wars, bank robberies, kidnappings, murdering of our children, floods, home foreclosures, prison escapes.the list goes on. What happened to reports of good news?

We are being overpowered by perils of danger and pains of loss. Many people are crippled by the fear of losing everything that they have worked so hard to accomplish. American dreams are turning into struggles to survive one day at a time. Fears of helplessness and losing the ability to preserve what we hold sacred is overwhelming. Many people find job losses especially frightening because they realize that it is just a matter of time before all is lost. When all is lost our sense of well being becomes threatened. There seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.

We are truly living in perilous times. I am convinced that we will overcome these trying times. According to historians, we have faced hard times in our country since the beginning of time. We will survive. We will come out of this crisis stronger than ever. In times like these it is vital that we form a united front. United we stand, divided we will surely fall. Therefore, this is not the time to play the blame game. Oh yes, I know it is so easy to criticize. However, criticism at this point in our lives is totally counter-productive. We must pray for our government leaders in authority from the local level to the national level.

We must leave the judging to God. We are not qualified. Yes, we have a right to our opinions and beliefs. That is our unalienable right. However, we must never lose sight of the fact that God is the highest judge in the land! I am fully aware of how easy it is to complain or criticize according to party affiliation and preference, but it does not solve our problems. We must hold our politicians accountable, without a doubt. Just like any job, we hired them to do a good job. If they fall short of expectation, we fire them when their term expires, and pray for better leaders. While they are in office, we must support them because they hold the future of our country in their hands.

Over the years we have made mistakes in the selection of our political leaders and we have paid dearly for those mistakes. For instance, many of our political leaders have been under Indictment for criminal acts and have been tried and found guilty and convicted. We must continue to make corrupt leaders accountable in a legal sense; however we, as believers, must trust God to pass judgment on officials who are corrupt and govern with self-serving motives. Our leaders are elected presidents, congressman, senators, governors, and Mayors. Beyond those titles, we must remember they are also flawed human being. There are no perfect people on earth. None is righteous but the Savior and Creator of the world. The One and only God who is more than enough to get us through this crisis!

God admonishes us to pray for our leaders. I realize that there are those among us who are non-believers and that is their right. Among non-believers are good people with good kind and generous hearts and we, as believers are in no position to judge them for their choices. God does not compel man to believe and accept Him. He gave us all a choice. Those of us who have chosen Christ as our personal Savior must pray to Him steadfastly as intercessors for our government and its officials. I am a living witness that prayer really does change things. Praying faithfully and fervently will lead our country to the door that has a sign on it that says EXIT. We will exit this downturn. We will come out of this crisis stronger and greater than ever. We will return our government to its rightful status as the greatest country in the free world! If you love the United States of America, pray for her. Our faith in God must be steadfast and unmovable. Prayer can and will put our country back on solid ground. We must prayerfully endure these times of testing our faith. Endurance will give us the capacity to remain under stress until God's work is done. Soon you will start to see perfect results of a perfect God reinstating our country to its rightful place in the world.

Reading your article brings two things to my mind. Firstly, "What happened to reports of good news?" Good news does not sell newspapers. It's as simple as that. There is a lot of good news out there, but no one is going after the stories, because there is no money in it, and newscast programmes are all about the money.

Secondly, as noble and right as it is to pray for America, America has decided in many ways to leave God out of the equation. Until it decides to put God back in the picture, not much will happen. Remember the scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and restore their land." As you can see from this scripture, it will take more than just prayer alone.

Hi David, very good points.  I really appreciate your response. I could feel your passion as I read your comments. Your biblical quote is right on the money. Truer words were never spoken. Our country is on the wrong track.  We definitely need a breakthrough. I cannot begin to express how deeply disappointed I am in our government and it's officials but I still have to ask myself the question....'What would Jesus do?"  I then remember what Jesus did according to the Bible when He was being condemned to death..."Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Even at the point of death He  was pleading our case. He overcame the world. We can overcome world situations when we follow in His footsteps. I believe that prayer is the ultimate key.
